AI Product Photography: Prompts and a Practical Workflow

A useful product image starts with an accurate product and a clear visual job. Decide whether you need a clean listing image, a lifestyle scene or a campaign concept before you generate. Those jobs require different compositions and different checks.

  1. Product reference
  2. Still image
  3. Detail review
  4. Optional video

1. Prepare a reference that shows the product clearly

Use a sharp image with a readable outline and enough space around the object. A plain background is a useful starting point because it makes the product easier to distinguish from the scene. Prepare additional views when the shape, handle, cap or packaging matters.

Write down the details that must stay accurate: silhouette, material, color, label placement and relative size. Separate these requirements from the parts you want to change, such as the tabletop, background or lighting. A reference communicates appearance; it does not guarantee that every label or small detail will be reproduced correctly.

2. Write the scene before adding decorative language

A practical prompt has five parts: the product, its placement, the environment, the light and the framing. Name the purpose of the image too. A listing image should make the item easy to inspect; a campaign concept can give more space to mood and setting.

In Marketing Studio, prepare the product reference and any character reference separately. In the image studio, review the reference inputs supported by your chosen model. Choose an aspect ratio for the destination rather than cropping a finished image into a very different format afterward.

3. Change one variable per iteration

Start with one composition you can judge. If the product is too small, change the framing. If the material looks wrong, change the material and light description. Changing the camera, background, props and style together makes it harder to know which change helped.

Keep a short note of the prompt, reference and settings associated with the version you prefer. When a still image is ready, it can become a reference for an image-to-video step. Check the current model and quote before generating another version; a revised prompt is a new creation step.

4. Check accuracy before making a finished asset

Zoom in on the label, lid, edges, reflections and any hands that touch the product. Compare the result with the real item rather than with another generated image. A beautiful scene can still be unsuitable for a listing if it changes a feature that a customer relies on.

Add final typography and precise brand elements in an editing workflow when needed. Review the rules of the destination where you plan to publish. Keep a version that shows the product clearly even if the more decorative campaign concept is not usable.

Prompt examples to adapt

These prompts illustrate a creative brief. They are not claims about a measured generation result; adapt them to your reference and the model controls available in the app.

Clean listing direction

Use the supplied product image as the appearance reference. A single stainless-steel travel mug on a seamless pale-gray background, three-quarter front view, soft studio key light and a gentle contact shadow. Center the complete product with clear space around its outline. Keep the silhouette, lid shape and material consistent with the reference. No extra props or added lettering.

Replace the item and material with your own. Verify any text and small components against the original.

Lifestyle scene

The referenced ceramic coffee cup on a small oak breakfast table beside a folded linen napkin. Early-morning side light from a window, warm neutral colors, eye-level close-up. Keep the cup as the main subject and leave clear space in the upper-right corner for later copy. Preserve the visible handle and proportions of the reference.

Describe the use context without introducing additional products that could distract from the item.

Campaign concept

An editorial product photograph of the referenced glass skincare bottle on a matte stone plinth. Broad soft light from camera left, a restrained amber reflection through the glass, muted sand background, medium close-up. Keep the bottle upright and fully visible. Minimal composition, realistic material response, no extra text.

Treat this as a visual concept. Check the bottle, packaging and claims before using it commercially.

When a result needs another pass

The product shape changes

Use a clearer reference and a simpler scene. State the few structural details that matter, then compare the next result at a larger size.

The label is unreadable

Do not rely on a generated label as the final source of product information. Plan a precise label or typography pass in an editing workflow.

The scene looks attractive but the product disappears

Reduce props, move to a closer framing and describe the product as the main subject.

Before the next creation step

  • The real product remains recognizable.
  • Important components and label information have been checked.
  • The framing fits the destination.
  • The next generation settings and quote are understood.
